Year 1 Fantastic Learning

Phonics and History

Year 1 have made some great progress this term with their phonics and writing and have been working hard in their groups! The children have have been enjoying their daily reading sessions and the children are responding really positively to their new Reading Folders and it's been amazing to see how engaged the class is their new books!

Our Topic this term is History, where we have been looking at the history of families and also recognising differences between the lives of our family members, and our own lives. We were lucky enough to have a phone call from a very special guest - Leea's Nan! The children asked some really insightful questions and listened intently to what was being said. They were really shocked to learn that it was common practice for teachers to throw board rubbers at the children, and were relieved to have missed the rubber throwing era! The class chose to write Thank You cards for our guest, these have been sent to Leea's Nan and we can't wait to hear back from her!

Autumnal Celebrations

In line with the Autumn Season, Year 1 have also been looking closely at Autumnal celebrations like Halloween and Guy Fawkes Night! The class had a great time creating their own fireworks, using a range of resources to imitate the sparkly and explosive firework effects!

The Year 1 team all wanted to say a big thank you to the whole class and also to the grown ups at home! The support from home really has been fantastic and we are all very grateful for all of your help. Keep up the excellent work Year 1!
