Course content - What will you be studying?

Our mathematics course gives students the confidence, skills and understanding needed to provide a strong foundation for further academic and vocational study.

They can then progress to a full range of courses in higher education, including level 3 maths programmes and undergraduate courses in other disciplines where the understanding and application of maths is crucial, including geography, biology and psychology.

The course also provides numeracy skills which are vital across the curriculum and in everyday life. The assessments cover the following content headings; number, algebra, ratio (proportion and rates of change), geometry and measurement, probability and statistics.

Assessment

During the course students will be assessed regularly to help them and the staff monitor progress made. Feedback will be given to students on an individualised progress sheet. Students will then be given time to improve on aspects of their work during dedicated improvement lessons.

Students will be encouraged to use this time to reflect and improve their assessments. During year 9, students will begin learning to apply their mathematical knowledge into answering GCSE type questions in preparation for their progress into Phase 4. Students transitioning to Key Stage 4 courses will undergo Edexcel GCSE Mathematics.
