Welcome to our Work Experience Information page

your hub for everything you need to succeed, grow, and take confident steps toward your future career path.

Taking Place from 21st - 23rd July

We’re excited to share that Work Experience Week will take place from Tuesday 21st July to Thursday 23rd July. This is a brilliant opportunity for students to explore the world of work, gain confidence and discover new skills that will support their future pathways.

To help organise everything, we’ll be using Unifrog, our online careers and destinations platform. Students will use Unifrog to search for placements, complete forms and reflect on their experiences. All young people will receive their Unifrog logins directly through their student emails. We will also be doing sessions on work experience during the Y10 PSHE lessons which will give some support.

Work Experience Week is a team effort between students, families and employers. Whether you’re a parent supporting your child, a student preparing for your placement or an employer offering valuable insight into your industry, your involvement helps create meaningful, real‑world learning.

For any questions, support, or further information, please contact us at workexperience@millbayacademy.org. Or pop to see either Charlie or Fiona for a chat.

Choosing Your Work Experience

Dates - Tuesday 31st-23rd July

Work experience is a great way to explore careers, build confidence, and learn new skills. The key is choosing a placement that interests you and helps you grow.

How to get started:

A good placement doesn’t have to decide your whole future, it’s simply a chance to try something new and discover what motivates you.

We’ll be using Unifrog, our online careers and destinations platform, students will be sent an email to sign up or a welcome email, if you already have an account they will just need to reset their password to get in. We will also be doing sessions on work experience during the Y10 PSHE lessons which should also give some support.

Possible Work Experience Options

Here are just a few examples of organisations that have previously supported our students. We’ll continue adding to this list over time.

SALTRAM - NATIONAL TRUST

PLYMOUTH CITY COUNCIL

EDF

We actively encourage students to explore opportunities in and around your area by reaching out to local businesses and community organisations. Taking the initiative to contact employers, ask questions and secure a placement is an important skill, one that helps build confidence and prepares students for their future career pathways.

If you’re finding it difficult to secure a placement, please speak with your tutor or our placement leads, Fiona and Charlie, who are here to support you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Work Experience for?

Work Experience is for Year 10 students only. It gives them a chance to explore the world of work, build confidence and develop key skills.

What platform are we using?

We will be using Unifrog to manage the entire process - placements, forms, employer details and student reflections.

Login guidance will be shared to students' emails directly. Please keep an eye out for this, if you're having any issues accessing your account reach out to the team on the contact details below.

Do students need to find their own placement?

Students are encouraged to find their own placement where possible, as this builds independence and confidence. However, support is available for anyone who needs help.

What if my child can’t find a placement?

No problem, the school will work with them to explore options. Encourage them to speak to the Work Experience Lead early so we can support them.

What are the expectations during the week?

Students are expected to:

  • Attend their placement each day

  • Communicate professionally

  • Follow workplace rules and safety guidance

  • Contact school if any issues arise

What should students wear?

This depends on the placement. Employers will confirm dress code but students should always aim to look professional and appropriate for the work environment.

How do employers record attendance or concerns?

Employers should contact Fiona and Charlie on the workexperience@millbayacademy.org if the students do not attend their work experience and if there are any urgent issues.

Will students complete any tasks afterwards?

Yes - students will reflect on their experience using Unifrog and the careers team. This helps them link their placement to future pathways such as college courses, apprenticeships or part‑time work.
