Photography Year 10 Options

AQA GCSE Photography

Course Content - What will you be studying?

This course is an obvious choice if you want to be a photographer but also a great option if you’re thinking of starting your own business, going into marketing or PR, want to improve your project management skills, or learn how to present ideas and work in a team. As well as undertaking practical work, there’s an expectation to complete written work too. You will learn how to research, analyse and interpret images and texts and communicate your opinions.

You will cover a range of photographic skills including landscape photography, studio portraiture, photographic lighting, working on location and documentary photography. You will learn how to use programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere and have an opportunity to study film production. We enter student work into national competitions and have won awards for the last three years at the Shine School Media awards, including a Getty award for Photographer of the Year.

We have a fantastic range of kit for you to use including DSLR cameras, photographic lighting, a photographic studio, sound recording kit, video cameras - you can even borrow some kit to work at home outside of school.

We hope to see you next September as a member of our PhotoMedia team!

Assessment weighting - Exams / Coursework

In Component 1, 60% (portfolio) students develop responses to initial starting points, project briefs or specified tasks and realise intentions informed by research, the development and refinement of ideas and meaningful engagement with selected sources.

In Component 2, 40% (externally set assignment) students respond to a starting point provided by AQA. This response provides evidence of the student’s ability to work independently within specified time constraints, realise intentions that are personal and meaningful and explicitly address the requirements of all four assessment objectives.
