Music - Year 9 Choices

Course content - What will you be studying?

Performing, composing, listening, reviewing and evaluating are fundamental to the music curriculum. Pupils study a diverse range of musical styles including traditional, world and popular music gaining good skills and understanding on a number of instruments. Pupils have the opportunity to develop their music technology skills using music software. There is an increased focus on quality of performances, solo and ensemble work. A solid knowledge in theory of music and history of music. A focus on own choice of musical instrument or digital technology.

Assessment

Students will be assessed through solo and ensemble performances on their instrument or voice; responding to set briefs in composing music for a target audience; listening tests; and completion of portfolios on the history of music, the music industry and theory of music.

Enrichment opportunities (Extra curricular clubs)

Pupils can continue learning beyond the classroom on a whole range of instrumental tuition, where students can be entered for their A.B.R.S.M exams in their instruments, including singing and music theory. Music production clubs and learning through performing with others in the school choir, orchestra, bands and musical theatre productions.
