What an amazing term we have been having in year 5. We have been blown away by the considerable amount of excellent learning being handed in day in and day out. We have been working tremendously hard exploring the Earth and the solar system. We have been researching Viking facts in order to create non-chronological reports in English and answer the question “Would Vikings do anything for money?” in our history. Not to mention our continued mastery of scaling fractions.
Here are just some of the many, many highlights...

Henry demonstrates how the Earth rotates on its axis and how the Earth orbits the sun. Henry notes that the North and South Poles receive less light because they are further from the sun.
Maths:
The children have been working on scaling fractions in order to add and subtract them from each other. Ben and Jack demonstrate here how to add 3 or more fractions by finding a common denominator.

Year 5 children have been linking their history project to writing a non-chronological report in English. They have used their computing skills to write their reports. Here Wyatt and Nikola below demonstrate their skills and the importance of crediting sources of information.

Many of the facts used in the information posters (during computing) were sourced from the English drafting. Here are two wonderful examples from Charlie (using Google Slides) and Ruby (beautifully handwritten) which also included a two point perspective diagram we learnt last term. We also had a whopping 45 posts on our stream of children sharing astounding facts, all about Vikings!
